About TheIPSpy

Built from necessity, shared out of solidarity

My name is Stephen Symington, and I didn’t set out to create a legal-tech platform. I was simply trying to help a friend fix his freight website.

He had invested heavily in a logistics platform that wasn’t converting. The quoting process was slow, the forms were clunky, and users were dropping off. I took a look, and within days I had built a simple instant quote system that solved the problem. It worked better than expected and I quickly realized I had created something with the potential to reshape the way logistics quoting is done.

I filed a provisional patent to protect the concept, knowing I had tapped into something significant. But then the real challenge began.

Industry giants started watching me. Quietly at first, then more frequently. Some in ghost mode, some openly. I knew what that meant. I had touched a nerve. The fear wasn’t in the views, it was in what could happen next.

I couldn’t afford an IP law firm to monitor potential infringement or prepare for a future legal battle. But I knew I had to protect my work. So I started tracking everything myself.

Website updates. UI changes. New quoting tools that looked a little too familiar. I used every free and affordable monitoring tool I could find and built a manual tracking system to log and timestamp possible overlaps.

That system gave me peace of mind. It created a defensible position. And then I thought, maybe others need this too.

So I built TheIPSpy.com and decided to make it freely available to other inventors, founders, and creators who are in the same position I was. No legal team, no funding, just the drive to protect something valuable.

The tools I share are free or low-cost. The idea is simple: if someone tries to copy your work, you’ll have a record. You’ll be prepared.

This project cost me the price of a few beers and a domain name. If you’re fighting your own IP battle with no budget and no backup, consider this my way of buying you a drink.

Protect your ideas. You built them. You deserve to defend them.
